Pain and Gain

This weekend I went to see Pain and Gain starring Dwayne “the Rock “ Johnson and Mark Walberg. The film was rated R and directed by Michael Bay who has also directed blockbuster films like “Transformer”.  The film is a action comedy based on a true story of a few Body Builders who attempt to rob Victor Kershaw, a self made millionaire. The main characters in the film are Daniel Lugo (Mark Walberg) and Paul Doyle (Dwayne “the Rock “ Johnson). These body builders have both had their issues with the law throughout their life and end up working togethder at the Sun Gym together. At work they come together and make this plan to steal Kershaw’s Money. While attempting to rob and torture Kershaw are able to make the whole process funny through their lack of experience and good comedic timing. A major complaint with this movie though is the often over dramatized fights which ruins the action aspect of the movie. While not one the funniest movie ever this movie is quite entertaining. The performances by the main character were excellent but this movie is definitely not a hit and will soon fall in the shadow of the coming blockbuster “Iron Man 3”.

"This is 40"

The Movie “This is 40” is a great mid life crisis comedy starring Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann. The story is about a couple who is turning 40 and the changes that occur in there life because of this. The comedic aspect of the movie is very family friendly and stem from the different way women and men deal with age.  While the movie is somewhat of a sequel from knocked up it does not truly have the same level of laughs. The movie has a well-written story line that adds to the depth of the characters and helps you understand their mindset.  The realistic portrayal of the family dynamic in this movie brings a great level of realism that most can relate to. I would definitely recommend this to anyone going to the movies for a few laughs. The acting and directing in it was very well matched with the professional levels of these seasoned actors. The movie is rated pg-13 and 133 minutes long that I think is just long enough to keep you entertained and not get lost in the plot.

The Incredible Burt Wonderstone

When a street magician's stunts begins to make their show look stale, superstar magicians Burt Wonderstone and Anton Marvelton look to salvage on their act - and their friendship - by staging their own daring stunt. The Incredible Burt Wonderstone (2013) stars Steve Carell and Jim Carrey and takes place in Las Vegas. Steve Carell a well known magician starts to fade away in the spot light when his act becomes second tear to new comer Jim Carrey a street magician with no magician educate. The film shows a struggle between Steve Carell and his assistant and how their friendship was what made their act become famous in the first place. I would not go to the theater to see this film but on a slow college night it is worth a watch.

This movie came out in theaters last Friday (April 12th) and has so far made $27 million in the box office. So far the movie has had great rating from other bloggers, critics, and viewers. This movie is based off of Jackie Robinson’s life and the challenges he faced while become the first African American baseball player in the MLB. This movie stars Harrison Ford as Branch Rickey, the GM for the Brooklyn Dodgers and Chadwick Boseman who Portrays Jackie Robinson.  If you don’t already know this amazing story then you must go see this movie. If you are familiar with this story you should still go see it. This movie would be a good movie for a college date or just a good night with the boys/girls.  If you haven’t seen the trailer check it out… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9RHqdZDCF0
